The Credit Manager oversees the credit control function to ensure effective management of receivables, risk mitigation, and cash flow optimisation. This role is responsible for setting credit policies, assessing creditworthiness, and leading collections activity across New Zealand-based customer accounts.

Credit Manager duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Credit Manager include:Developing and implementing credit policies and procedures to manage risk and support sales objectivesAssessing customer creditworthiness and setting appropriate credit limits and termsMonitoring accounts receivable ageing and leading collection strategies to reduce overdue debtManaging credit risk exposure and initiating action on delinquent accounts, including legal escalation if requiredLeading and mentoring the credit control team to ensure efficient and consistent practicesCollaborating with sales, finance, and legal teams to resolve disputes and support customer relationshipsPreparing credit reports, risk assessments, and cash flow forecasts for senior managementEnsuring compliance with IRD requirements and accounting standards in credit and receivables processesUtilising credit management systems and financial platforms (e.g. SAP, Xero, MYOB) to maintain accurate records

Credit Manager job qualifications and requirements

A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or business is preferred. NZQA-recognised credit management qualifications are advantageous.Requirements include:5+ years’ experience in credit control, with at least 2 years in a leadership roleProven ability to assess credit risk and manage high-volume debtor portfoliosStrong knowledge of New Zealand credit legislation and debt recovery practicesProficiency with financial systems and credit reporting tools (e.g. Equifax, Centrix)Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skillsStrong analytical and reporting capabilitiesAbility to lead teams and influence internal and external stakeholders
