Application Support job description

The Application Support role is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise applications to ensure smooth operation and optimal user experience. This role works closely with end-users, IT teams, and vendors to resolve application issues, implement updates, and ensure compliance with New Zealand data and system security standards.

Application Support duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of an Application Support role include:Providing second-level support for business-critical applications, diagnosing and resolving functional or technical issuesManaging incidents, service requests, and change controls via ITSM systemsLiaising with software vendors and internal teams to escalate and resolve application defects or performance issuesSupporting application configuration, user access, and integration with other systemsMonitoring application performance and system logs to proactively identify and resolve issuesParticipating in system upgrades, testing, and deployment activitiesDocumenting support processes, application configurations, and troubleshooting stepsEnsuring application support complies with the NZ Privacy Act, ISO 27001, and internal IT policies

Application Support job qualifications and requirements

A diploma or degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field is preferred.Requirements include:2–4 years’ experience in application or systems support rolesStrong understanding of application lifecycle management and ITIL support frameworksFamiliarity with SQL for querying and diagnosing data-related issuesExperience supporting ERP, CRM, or custom-built applications in a business environmentKnowledge of New Zealand-specific data privacy and IT security standardsExcellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skillsAbility to coordinate across multiple teams and manage priorities effectively
