Dispatcher job description

The dispatcher coordinates and monitors the movement of personnel, vehicles or shipments to ensure timely and efficient service. This role manages schedules, communicates with drivers and customers, and resolves issues to keep operations running smoothly.Working closely with logistics teams, service providers and clients, the dispatcher tracks deliveries, updates records and responds to inquiries. This position plays a critical role in maintaining workflow efficiency and delivering exceptional customer service.

Typical dispatcher duties:

Schedule and dispatch drivers, vehicles or service personnel based on workload and prioritiesCommunicate with drivers and customers to provide updates and resolve scheduling conflictsTrack routes, delivery times and service progress using dispatch software or tracking systemsMaintain accurate records of assignments, mileage and delivery confirmationsRespond promptly to emergencies, delays or changes in service requirementsCoordinate with internal teams to ensure compliance with company policies and safety standardsPrepare reports on dispatch activities and performance metricsSupport process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operational delays
