Description
Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform technical and analytical work in developing infrastructure designs and plans for both current and future strategies for information management and information technology goals, objectives, and initiatives related to the network, voice and data, and information security. Employee is expected to have advanced knowledge and experience with LAN and WAN infrastructure technologies. The employee is expected to mentor less-experienced network engineers.

The Network Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, health, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. The Network Engineer II participates in technical research and development to enable continual innovation within the infrastructure. The Network Engineer ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational strategies and values.
Requirements
Determine root cause of issues and communicate appropriately to internal and external customers
Develop and maintain installation, operations, and configuration procedures.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware and software.
Apply network system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Provide technical support after normal work hours when necessary.
Responsible for documenting the configuration of systems.
Coordinates and manages LAN/WAN operations in support of departmental goals and objectives; coordinates activities with other departments and agencies as needed
Collects, analyzes and manages performance and capacity data for identifying trends to prevent system disruptions and downtime.
Customer Service

Advise management on situations that may require additional client support or escalation.
Consistently provide excellent customer service.
Communicates to the customer the status of requests for technical assistance as well as establishes a service level expectation with them.
Follow all relevant standards and procedures.
Thoroughly document incident descriptions, activities and resolutions.
Innovation

Develop and mature Network Engineering processes to ensure free flowing escalation and information within the organization.
Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing data center environment.
Design and implement highly-available hardware and software systems across multiple operating systems.
Leadership

Mentor and/or guide less-experienced Network Engineers in locating the necessary tools and process to identify troublesome trends as they develop.
Assists in developing strategic plans and identifies key success factors, setting priorities, and allocates the resources to achieve unit, division, and County goals.
Performs duties as assigned and necessary which are related or logical in assignment to the position.
Project

Installs, configures, and troubleshoots LAN and WAN networks and associated assemblies.
Assists in the implementation of network architectures, including LAN/WANs, LAN inter-networking and connections with the WAN environment.
Decommission legacy hardware and software.
Migrate and/or upgrade hardware and software.
Analyze application requirements, developers? needs, and technical constraints, then provide tailored solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:
Bachelor?s Degree in Information Technology or a closely related field.
CCNA certification
Required Experience:
Five (5) or more years of progressively knowledgeable, responsible and skilled experience in systems and networking including the following areas:
Proven ability to design, architect, develop, and maintain a medium to large scale network and server environment.
Firewall installation, configuration and management.
Infrastructure Cabling
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver?s License.
A combination of education, training, and experience may be used in lieu of the required education
Desired Experience:
MCSA Server certification
CCSA certification or equivalent firewall administration certification
or related firewall engineering certification
Experience with cloud computing:
Migration
Installation
Administration
Knowledge of scripting languages (Windows PowerShell and VBScript).
