The ideal candidate for this position can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. The full-time Controller position is situated in the Alameda, California area.

Your responsibilities in this role

- Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

- Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

- Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

- Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

- Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management

- Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

- Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

- Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

- Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

- Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Requirements
- Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

- Self-starter and strong ethical standards

- Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

- Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

- Distinguished analytical, quantitative and social skills

- Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

- Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

- CPA or MBA preferred

- Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

- Excellent oral and written communications skills

- Proven knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR)

- Practical knowledge of construction

- Deep understanding of financial reporting

- Annual Financial Reporting experience preferred

- Accounting 2000 experience

- Experience with Accounts Payable (AP)

- Earlier work involving payroll

- Wide ranging experience with construction

- Well-founded grasp of union payroll

- Previous experience working with year end closings

- Good understanding of month end closings

- General familiarity with Union Payroll

- Quality experience with Construction Accounting

- Annual Financial Reporting experience preferred

- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
