Legal Secretary
We are looking for an entry-level Legal Secretary to join a criminal defense practice in Houston, Texas. In this Contract to permanent position, you will provide critical administrative support to attorneys, ensuring smooth operations in a dynamic and fast-paced legal environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to start their legal career and gain valuable experience in criminal defense.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including letters, forms, and motions, under attorney supervision.<br>• Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client files while upholding strict confidentiality standards.<br>• Coordinate and schedule meetings, court dates, and appointments for attorneys and clients.<br>• File legal paperwork with courts and law enforcement agencies as required.<br>• Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including scanning and copying documents.<br>• Maintain office supplies and ensure the workspace is organized for efficient operations.<br>• Perform accurate data entry to update client and case details in the management system.<br>• Assist attorneys in trial preparation by organizing exhibits and case materials.<br>• Handle calendar management and dictation tasks to support daily legal operations.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional clerical certification or college coursework is a plus.<br>• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.<br>• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.<br>• Strong written and verbal communication skills.<br>• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.<br>• Willingness to learn legal terminology and procedures through hands-on experience.<br>• Previous administrative or office experience is preferred but not mandatory.<br>• Familiarity with e-Filing and court filing processes is advantageous.
