We recently developed a white paper that outlines topics that are top of mind for CIOs and technology leaders, and how they are expressing their thoughts on those topics via social media.
We all know that social media provides an excellent opportunity for IT professionals to network with IT leaders and stay current on industry topics. But it’s particularly valuable to follow influential technology executives and thought leaders on social media. Twitter in particular can provide a way to stay informed on not only the relevant topics of the day, but what the future of technology may look like.
Our research indicates these five topics are top of mind for tech leaders on Twitter:
- Big Data and Analytics
- Cloud Computing
- Internet of Things
These are all important aspects of managing technology in the enterprise today, and can lead to innovation and competitive advantages for almost any firm. Other topics CIOs tweeted about frequently included mobile, digital and information security. We found that CIOs are using social media to showcase their expertise on these topics, as well as drive conversation about technology strategy and innovation.
Our research also found that tech leaders are increasingly following technology thought leaders, industry analysts and journalists, as well as marketing and social media influencers. It’s an easy way for them to stay up-to-date on alternative ideas and strategies in technology, beyond traditional sources of information.
One exciting aspect of this trend is that CIOs are using social media to share information, best practices, insightful trends, predictions on the future of technology and opinions on all the above. Tech leaders are using Twitter as a real-time, idea-sharing tool.
I encourage you to download a copy of this complementary white paper to find out more about how top technology influencers are using Twitter, as well as the leaders in the industry they follow.
Who do you follow on social media and why? Is Twitter your go-to source for the lastest tech information, or do you find other social channels more useful? Please tweet me directly @jreedrht with your comments or thoughts. I would really like to hear from you.
