How does the current Seattle unemployment rate impact area employers?
Robert Half District President Josh Warborg notes that the declining unemployment rate has put candidates in the driver’s seat. “Employers should understand that, with the drop in unemployment, it may be even more challenging for managers to find skilled talent for in-demand positions,” Warborg says.
To remain competitive in the hiring market, Warborg says, employers should consider not only traditional recruitment efforts, such as circulating job postings, but alternative strategies like internal recruitment or employee referrals. Specialized recruiters can also help streamline the hiring process and provide access to talent that’s passively looking for opportunities.
Warborg adds that employers should also turn their attention to making their organizations attractive to the next generation of workers. “As Generation Z continues to enter the workforce, employers must adapt to their needs,” he says. “These workers are eager to learn and add value to your company, so it’s important to appreciate everything they have to give.”
Evaluate your benefits packages and corporate culture to see if your offerings align with Gen Z’s expectations. “Remember, this generation puts stock in work-life balance and professional development, so try to find ways to offer those if they’re lacking in your organization,” Warborg says. Making your perks package competitive can help keep your current employees happy and open your doors to a new talent base.
