Robert Half Finance Accounting has been enlisted by a local client in the construction industry looking for a Payroll Manager for their Shared Services environment. They are looking for a strategic thinker who can work well with a team as well as the entire organization to ensure consistency of processes. As the Payroll Manager, you will be a key contributor to the finance organization as well as lead and manage all aspects of payroll processing activities for the growing company. In addition, you will work with a team of payroll specialists and will perform duties that require an understanding of company payroll policies and procedures with a strong level of customer service. Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide knowledge and guidance, and oversee the day-to-day activities of the payroll team
- Review and approve the multi-state biweekly payrolls for approximately 1,000 salaried and hourly, full time and part time employees, ensuring the accuracy of data entry and adherence to state/provincial compliance
- System maintenance auditing, including, but not limited to new hire set up, taxes forms processing, local taxes, timekeeping input, direct deposit set up, benefits set up, terminations, and garnishments processing
- Reconcile 941?s and W-2s/T-4s at year-end
- Keep updated on a changing compliance environment and apply these to the payroll system to improve efficiency effectiveness
- Develop strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Manage, lead, coach and develop Payroll team providing guidance on prioritizing and performance
- Act as owner, leader and/or project manager of key company payroll projects and for payroll work streams in other projects
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree, CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
- 5+ years payroll experience, including multi-state
- Ability to exhibit strong people/leadership skills required
- Proven ability to develop payroll processes and procedures
- Experience working in a high volume, multi-task work environment a plus
- Strong organizational and planning skills, able to work reliably and efficiently under demanding deadlines, and with minimal supervision
- Detail oriented, high level of accuracy and completeness of work; able to prepare and process payroll documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Maintain confidential information when required by legal or ethical standards and professionalism to ensure privacy of employee records
