Description
Robert Half Finance has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller will be a full-time employment opportunity and will be located in the Richmond, Virginia region.

What you get to do every day

- Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings collections, and payroll

- Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations G/L analysis

- Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

- Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

- Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

- Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

- Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

- Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

- Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

- Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

- Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations
Requirements
- Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

- Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

- Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

- Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

- Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills

- Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

- Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

- Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

- Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

- Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"

- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

- Financial statement preparation experience

- Foundational knowledge in financial auditing

- QuickBooks experience desired

- Deep understanding of month end closings
