LEGAL DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES IS NEEDED ASAP! The Director of Human Resources oversees and guides the Human Resources department and its functions for the Firm’s administrative staff and paralegals, as well as, select functions for the Firm’s attorneys. The responsibilities include employee relations; policies and procedures; legal compliance and recordkeeping; recruiting; non-legal and non-managerial performance evaluation, improvement and compensation; employee benefits; and payroll. In addition, the Director has responsibility for supervision of department staff, law clerks and select functions for paralegals. Importantly, the Director must possess strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills along with the ability to display a level of discretion above reproach, in fact or perception. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Employee relations: Responsible for employee relations in all respects: fostering an atmosphere where employees are comfortable sharing their ideas and concerns; supporting and advocating for the Firm’s culture; and modeling appropriate behavior and communication styles; Responsible for employee counseling/coaching to resolve complaints/problems for all non-legal administrative and paralegal staff in conjunction with Human Resources staff, COO, Practice Group Leaders and/or Management Committee, as appropriate; Serve as Chairperson of the Firm’s FunFitnessFilanthropy Committee, a committee designed to promote employee goodwill, wellness and charitable activities in the Firm; Participate in administrative and paralegal staff meetings as needed; Develop, oversee, direct and when necessary conduct new employee orientation.; In conjunction with the Firm’s broker, develop and administer open enrollment process, assisting employees as needed; Maintain and administer the Firm’s 401K/Profit Sharing Plan in conjunction with the COO and Controller including: maintaining original Plan documents, making required communications with participants; regularly auditing and updating designated beneficiary designations; facilitating employee loans and related paperwork; assisting with rollovers into and out of the Firm’s Plan; and ensuring loans are paid off with employee departures and closing accounts with zero balances. May also participate in the annual Plan audit preparation; Approve all employee benefit insurance invoices for changes and additions to plans – alert Accounting for payroll deduction and changes on premiums for new hires and existing personnel changes; Oversee and/or administer short-term disability and family medical and other guaranteed leave for all employees, including payroll adjustments, PTO, insurance, loans and other miscellaneous adjustments to employee’s status; Oversee and/or administer worker’s compensation and long-term disability claims; Payroll; Direct and maintain all HRIS data on payroll system; Serve as back-up for preparing bi-weekly payroll, when needed; Other; Attend and participate in professional group and/or industry associations to stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of human resource management; Supervisory Responsibilities: Secretarial Supervisor; Human Resources Specialist/Coordinator; Law Clerks in conjunction with the Associate and Law Clerk Committee; Paralegals in conjunction with others. Master’s degree or other Human Resource certifications a plus; Minimum 7-10 years Human Resources managerial experience in a professional service industry. Law firm experience a plus; Proficient working knowledge of human resources administration, employment laws and federal and state statutes impacting benefits such as certain ERISA, healthcare, and related tax laws. Technical Requirements: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and legal or other document management system such as iManage or NetDocs; Working knowledge of Adobe or other PDF program; Working knowledge of data analysis and manipulation typically found in HRIS systems; Knowledge of all office equipment such as fax machines, scanners, photocopiers and calculators; Payroll software experience.
