Boutique, Privately-owned Asset Management Firm in Boston.

Controller $120-130k + bonus

This role is very diverse. The Controller reports to the key principal of the organization (very closely-held; family-run; multiple legal entities) in a very boutique atmosphere. A strong, hands-on accounting professional is needed. The organization is very active in making acquisitions, improving their positions, and promoting philanthropy. It's a complex org with 30+ legal entities to manage and track performance of. Work life balance in a very collegial setting is how they operate. They don't have much turnover whatsoever. People tend to stay, so they are looking for someone that might like to find a nice, stable environment to call home.

The role is a nice mix of acctg/finance, benefits admin, tax support and overall firm administration.

Role and Responsibilities
• Financial accounting and reporting for entities, trusts and individuals
• Performance of treasury function managing accounts and cash across family office entities and trusts, including bank reconciliations
• Preparation and management of budgets for various individuals and entities
• Utilizing QuickBooks, preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and financial statements
• Implementation of process improvement initiatives and provide support for internal projects
• Oversight of the administration of human resource function; payroll, retirement benefits, paid time off benefits, and health benefits
• Coordinating the collection of all K-1s and issuance of 1099s
• Preparation of tax workpapers for outside tax accountants
• Oversight and approval of all accounts payable and related documentation
• Processing of partnership/LLC capital calls and distributions; maintenance of internal basis for partnerships/LLCs
• Maintenance of balance sheet schedules
• Establishment and maintenance of appropriate internal controls including documentation for transactions or transfers
- 15-25+ years of experience (or more) is ideal for this role.
- QuickBooks (preferring a high degree of expertise here)
- Experience with payroll, benefits admin, general administration of the back-office.
- Ability to work closely with family members on both personal and firm strategy.
- Hands on experience within a family-owned, closely-held private company.
- Active problem-solver who can thrive in a small company, boutique office setting.
- CPA is a plus
