Write an Accountant Job Description That Sings (and Attracts Awesome Candidates)

If you need to hire an accountant but are having little – or no – luck attracting the right candidates, you may need to work on your sales pitch: the accountant job description. By assessing your needs, doing some research on available talent and salaries and knowing how to best present your company's strengths, you can write an accountant job description that attracts the right candidates.

Here are some tips for getting started:

Don't forget the essentials. It may seem like a no-brainer, but make sure your accountant job description includes the job title, job summary, department, supervisor, skills and qualifications, job location, type of employment (full or part time), company overview and recruiter contact information. A slip-up or omission in these basic points could be the difference between an accountant job description that sings — or sinks.

Start strong. Aim for a powerful opening that connects with your audience and generates excitement about the position's possibilities. A compelling introduction will also work to encourage potential candidates to read the rest of your accountant job description.

Great expectations. Expand on the job summary by defining your expectations for the person who fills the role. Provide details on both the immediate and long-term objectives for the position and define what constitutes exceptional performance. Be as specific as possible to provide a clear picture of your standards.

Offer attractive compensation.
