A trend in finance and accounting career development these days centers on improving soft skills.
Put simply, even the best financial analysis can't have lasting impact if the analyst can't effectively communicate her findings to co-workers, other departments or the board.
A survey by Protiviti, a subsidiary of Robert Half, found that of all the soft skills that internal auditors need to improve, public speaking was ranked No. 1.

Both Ryan Sutton, a Boston-based Robert Half senior regional president, and Dan DeNisco, a senior vice president with Robert Half Management Resources in Florida, emphasized that preparation is key and said that if you want to move up in the ranks, mastering public speaking is critical.
