According to the most recent monthly jobs report, the non-seasonally adjusted Dallas unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in November — unchanged from the previous month. During the same reporting period and on a seasonally adjusted basis, 7,100 Dallas jobs were added.
Statewide, the monthly jobs report shows the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November was 4.6 percent, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from October. Texas added 16,300 jobs in November, on a seasonally adjusted basis.
How will these numbers affect employers looking to staff Dallas jobs?
Robert Half Senior Regional President Mark Malone says companies need to keep in mind that top candidates aren’t staying on the market long, especially those qualified to fill high-demand positions in accounting and finance. “Drawn-out hiring processes that take several weeks won’t be effective in the Dallas jobs market,” says Malone, “so employers need to act decisively when they find ideal candidates, or risk losing them to another offer.”
For companies looking to staff entry-level positions, Malone underscores the importance of knowing what the newest generation of job seekers is after. “Generation Z wants to work hard and make a noticeable impact in their professions as soon as they can,” Malone says. “And they also want to climb the ladder quickly.” Selling candidates on your organization’s opportunities for training and career development is an excellent means of capturing the attention of this highly driven generation.
None of this is to say, however, that competitive starting salaries are not still important, regardless of which generation candidates belong to. “Many companies lose their top choices to competitors due to uninformed salary offers,” he says. Make certain you’re keeping current with your compensation levels by benchmarking your starting salary offerings against those in the Robert Half Salary Guide.
