Target's Allan Peters Shares 10 Tips for In-house Designers

In-house designers: Check out a free webcast to get a temperature check on your career and tips to take it to the next level.

I attended AIGA's annual design conference last October to help represent The Creative Group and coordinate our speaking opportunities as presenting sponsor of the in-house sessions. I had the good fortune of hearing Allan Peters talk about his 33-year career in the creative industry and experience working as a senior art director for Target.

Listening to his talk, I was inspired, surprised and even moved to tears (no joke) – and I'm not even a designer. The reason I'm sharing this is because Allan, now associate creative director for Target and the ambassador for AIGA's INitiative program, will be sharing 10 tips for in-house designers during a webcast on Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. From finding a mentor to knowing when to make a career move, he'll offer insights based on his experience working as part of one of the largest in-house creative teams in the country. And did I mention anyone can attend for free? It's a rare opportunity you don't want to miss.

You can find more information about the webcast and instructions for attending on AIGA's website. And while you're there, be sure to check out other INitiative updates, including:

  • AIGA's new in-house advisory committee, including Will Gay, creative director at Disney's Yellow Shoes and Johanna Langford, vice president marketing creative at J.Crew
  • Upcoming events geared toward in-house managers and creatives
  • And a new look for INitiative, developed by none other than Allan Peters!
