National Boss Day is October 16. That gives you two weeks to plan the perfect sycophantic celebration. Or, for the more subtle employee, the chance to send us the best career advice you've ever gotten from a boss. You choose.
Most creative professionals experience moments when they covet their manager's job. Or their power. Or their salary. Or their spacious office. But being the boss isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
Sure, managers get to call some shots, but let's face it: they also deal with their fair share of red tape and difficult people (never you, of course!). Even great bosses get complained about and second-guessed. Worse yet, they have to listen to us fake cough when we call in sick due to a "serious sinus infection" (aka hangover).
On October 16, we can help make up for any headaches we've created for our managers by recognizing their efforts on National Boss Day. We'll be posting a roundup of supervisor shout-outs and we want your stories: What's the best piece of career advice you've received from a boss, past or present?
Answering is a fantastic way to earn some brownie points, create good karma – or, less cynically, simply thank your manager by honoring him or her on Boss Day. Email us at [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, location and those managerial words of wisdom that have made a meaningful difference in your life.
