WorkVine: The Quirks of Work! addresses the lighter side of the workplace, with fun topics to help you get through the workday.
Your choice of an office coffee mug may communicate more about you than you think.
What vibe are you giving off with yours?
1. World’s Greatest ______
Funny how there can be only one world’s greatest boss or assistant or you name it, but you have one of the thousands of cups proclaiming it. All the same, good for you! Your coffee mug tells everyone that you want to be at least considered the greatest.
2. Plain white mug
Coffee is just another part of your day. It’s your fuel but not your passion. You’re here to work and, though you have a life outside work, it stays there.
3. Novelty mug
Your fandom mug — Star Wars, Wonder Woman or Elvis — lets your coworkers know that yes, you do have a life and interests outside these office walls.
4. Your company logo
Your mug with the company logo sends a message that you’re all business. Between nine and five, you think about work and nothing but work. Work. Just work. That’s it.
5. Another company’s logo
Your Mike’s BBQ mug means that you’re quite loyal to that company. That’s great, as long as you don’t work for Joe’s BBQ.
6. Large thermos
You show your coworkers you’re ready for the long haul if you drink your coffee out of a large thermos. You’ll fill it up with 20 ounces of Joe in the morning and another 20 at 10 a.m. if you need the extra caffeine. And you’ll repeat until after 8 p.m. if that’s what the day requires.
7. Disposable cup
If you drink your coffee out of a disposable cup dispensed beside the coffee maker, you may be telling coworkers you’re not particularly engaged in your job or environmentally conscious. Recycling that cup would be a step in the right direction.
8. Your initials
If your coffee mug has your initials on it, you take as much pride in your coffee as you do in your work. Plus, you want to make sure no one else drinks out of your coffee mug.
9. Your profession
If your coffee mug includes something related to your profession on it — such as an accountant’s mug with “I love reconciliation” — it means that you do have a personality to go along with your extensive knowledge of the profession. Or you got a free mug at a seminar.
10. Favorite coffee shop
If your mug is a large cup with your favorite coffee shop’s logo on it, that means you’re a coffee snob — plain and simple. BUT you take as much of a high-brow attitude with your work, too, which is a good thing.
