New York City Jobs Report for March 2018

Employment growth in New York City

In March, New York City shed 2,600 jobs (seasonally adjusted). Overall employment increased by 1.7 percent (non-seasonally adjusted) for the area from February 2017 to February 2018. New York City’s year-over-year job growth during this period was slightly above the national average.

Unemployment rate in New York City

As of March 2018, the New York City area had an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent. Year-over-year, the area’s unemployment rate declined by 0.4 percentage point.

The state of New York had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent in March. The national unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent.

Wages and salaries in New York City

New York City-area wages and salaries increased by 2.4 percent for the 12-month period ending December 2017. This was below the national average, which saw a 2.8 percent increase for the same period.
