Los Angeles Jobs Report for March 2018

Employment growth in Los Angeles

In March, the Los Angeles area shed 4,000 jobs (seasonally adjusted). Overall employment increased by 1.6 percent (non-seasonally adjusted) for the area from February 2017 to February 2018. Los Angeles’s year-over-year job growth during this period was consistent with the national average.

Unemployment rate in Los Angeles       

As of March 2018, the Los Angeles area had an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent (non-seasonally adjusted). Year-over-year, the area’s unemployment rate declined 0.6 percentage point.

California had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent (seasonally adjusted) in March. The seasonally adjusted national unemployment rate was 4.1 percent.

Wages and salaries in Los Angeles

Los Angeles-area wages and salaries increased by 3.3 percent for the 12-month period ending December 2017. This is above the national average, which saw a 2.8 percent increase for the same period.
