Houston Jobs Report for March 2018

Employment growth in Houston

In March, the Houston area added 8,000 jobs (seasonally adjusted). Overall employment increased by a 2.2 percent (non-seasonally adjusted) for the area from February 2017 to February 2018. Houston’s year-over-year job growth during this period exceeded the national average.

Unemployment rate in Houston

As of March 2018, the Houston area had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent (non-seasonally adjusted). Year-over-year, the area’s unemployment rate declined by 0.6 percentage point.

Texas had an unemployment rate of 4.0 percent (seasonally adjusted) in March, and the national unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent (seasonally adjusted).

Wages and salaries in Houston

Houston-area wages and salaries increased by 2.0 percent for the 12-month period ending December 2017. This is below the national average, which saw a 2.8 percent increase for the same period.
