Los Angeles Jobs Report for February 2018

Employment growth in Los Angeles

In February, the Los Angeles area shed 2,800 jobs (seasonally adjusted). Overall employment increased by 1.9 percent (non-seasonally adjusted) for the area from January 2017 to January 2018. Los Angeles’ year-over-year job growth during this period exceeded the national average.

Unemployment rate in Los Angeles       

As of February 2018, the Los Angeles area had an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent (non-seasonally adjusted). Year-over-year, the area’s unemployment rate declined by half a percentage point.

California had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent (seasonally adjusted) in February. The national unemployment rate was 4.1 percent (seasonally adjusted).

Wages and salaries in Los Angeles

Los Angeles-area wages and salaries increased by 3.3 percent for the 12-month period ending December 2017. This is above the national average, which saw a 2.8 percent increase for the same period.
