Chicago Jobs Report for February 2018

Review the latest Chicago-area jobs data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Employment growth in Chicago

In February, the Chicago area added 18,400 jobs. Overall employment increased 0.5 percent for the area from January 2017 to January 2018. Chicago’s year-over-year job growth during this period was well below the national average.

Unemployment rate in Chicago

As of February 2018, the Chicago area unemployment rate held at 5.1 percent. Year-over-year, the area’s unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage point. 

Illinois had an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent in February. The national unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent.

Wages and salaries in Chicago

Chicago-area wages and salaries increased by 2.6 percent for the 12-month period ending December 2017. This is below the national average, which saw a 2.8 percent increase for the same period.
