New York City Jobs Report for December 2017

Employment growth in New York City

In December, New York City added 3,600 jobs. Overall employment increased 1.6 percent for the New York City area from November 2016 to November 2017. New York’s year-over-the-year job growth during this period exceeded the national average.

Unemployment rate in New York City

In December 2017, the New York City area had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent unemployment rate. Year over year, the area’s unemployment rate declined by 0.6 percent.

The state of New York had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent in December. And the national unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent.

Wages and salaries in New York City

New York City-area wages and salaries increased by 3.2 percent for the 12-month period ended September 2017. This is above the national average, which saw a 2.6 percent increase for the same period.
