Houston Jobs Report for December 2017

Employment growth in Houston

In December, the Houston area lost 500 jobs. However, overall employment increased 1.6 percent for the Houston area from November 2016 to November 2017. Houston’s year-over-year job growth during this period exceeded the national average.

Unemployment rate in Houston

As of December 2017, the Houston area had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent (non-seasonally adjusted).

The unemployment rate in Texas was 3.9 percent (seasonally adjusted), and the national unemployment rate was at 4.1 percent (seasonally adjusted).

Wages and salaries in Houston

Houston-area wages and salaries increased by 2.6 percent for the 12-month period that ended in September 2017. This is the same as the national average.
