Chicago Jobs Report for December 2017

Employment growth in Chicago

In December 2017, the Chicago area lost 9,300 jobs (seasonally adjusted). However, overall employment increased 0.6 percent (non-seasonally adjusted) for the area from November 2016 to November 2017.

Unemployment rate in Chicago

As of December 2017, the unemployment rate for the Chicago area was 5.1 percent. Year over year, the area’s unemployment rate declined by 0.8 percent.

Illinois had an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent in December, and the national unemployment rate was 4.1 percent.

Wages and salaries in Chicago

Chicago-area wages and salaries increased by 2.3 percent for the 12-month period ending September 2017. This is below the national average, which saw a 2.6 percent increase for the same period.
